Player-vs-player is also supported though how many players will be supported in that mode per ship (and how many ships) isn’t clear. While the game can be played solo, there’s nine distinct role on the bridge, each of which can be filled by a real player in co-op multiplayer. Instead of just interacting through a simple UI, Carrier Command 2 is played in first-person with the player taking position on the bridge of the carrier itself and given access to the ship’s many functions laid out spatially between various control panels and computer terminals. Now I'm just wondering if the developers are also planning on adding PvP content in the future, or if it's just going to be a PvE only experience.Carrier Command 2, which was confirmed just a few weeks ago to be getting full VR support, is now set to launch on August 10th.Ĭarrier Command 2 is a PC-based reboot of the now 33 year-old Carrier Command which crosses elements of vehicle simulation with real-time strategy. I imagine it's gonna be FAR more tolerable to have humans at the helms of the vehicles, and having somebody constantly monitoring the carrier for incoming threats is another plus. The big redeeming factor here is going to be the multiplayer aspect, something both the original game and Gaea Mission lacked. Thus, micro-managing your vehicles is a must, since unless the enemy is in a straightforward and easy position to attack your drones probably won't be up to the task. Your UGV vehicles still have horrible navigational skills and can potentially flip themselves over with no option of recovery available, and the retro artstyle often doesn't jive well with the lighting, sometimes making it difficult to discern the ocean from landmasses due to both lacking detailed textures or looking identical during any orange-ish evenings. Now recently I had a chance to try out a demo of the gameplay during Steam's Next Fest a couple of weeks back, and unfortunately the very same issues that plagued Gaea Mission still seem to exist. Easily one of the worst cases of buyer's remorse I ever had since I foolishly bought that sucker on release at full price. The game barely did anything right, ranging from the story, FPS sections, vehicle controls, unit AI and pathfinding, pacing. and believe me, I tend to be really lenient, even towards titles with poor reputations. What they do all share in common though is the concept of taking control of a futuristic amphibious assault carrier (think akin to the US Navy's Tarawa or Wasp class vessels) that is engaged in an island-hopping campaign against a rival military that has their own carrier.
